Venting I’m bored

These games are over 6 minutes into the 1st quarter!!!! I’m excited all god damn day and then I sit down to watch and it’s a massacre. I’ve watched way too much of the bench guys to the point where some of them are clocking 15+ minutes!!!!

Fucking bones hyland was getting gassed out there.

The wife was complaining how boring it is from her perspective because there’s no drama in the game. The wolves coasted for 3 quarters against what I consider a good Raptors team.

Last year you’d have the wild swings, horrible shooting slumps and then the ANTMAN theatrics to finish the game and get the W. It raised my blood pressure for real.

Now??? Calm as a Hindu cow. My biggest worry is someone getting injured when we got a 20+ pt lead 😂

Now during games I’m spending an inordinate amount of time going behind enemy lines and watching them cope play by play as they’re team is getting murdered in real time. I feel like a sadist.

This is going to take some getting used to.

What if we had a Fan nickname of "the Trees"?

Idk why but this idea tickles me. Call ourselves the trees and then wear these t-shirts that they gave out in last year's playoff games:

As great as this start is, opponents WILL shoot better eventually

This has been an undeniably great start to the season, and I'm super impressed by the defense shown so far, but I do want to slow the hype train a little bit. So far this year, opponents are shooting 23.6% on 3's. Some of this has to do with good defense. But the inherent variance in 3pt shooting also means your opponent can shoot terribly, and your defense has nothing to do with it.

Last year, the average 3pt percentage for a team was 36%. A team shooting 36.7 3-pointers a game (what the Timberwolves have been allowing this year) at a 36% clip scores almost 14 more points than a team shooting 23.6%.

Additionally, while I expect the Timberwolves to be a great 3-point shooting team, they aren't going to sustain a 42.4% 3-point percentage on 39.3 attempts per game. That would probably make them the greatest 3pt shooting team ever, over teams like the 73-9 Warriors (who shot 41.6% on 31.6 attempts per game) and the 96-97 Hornets (who shot 42.8% on 16.9 attempts per game).

Of course, this doesn't mean that we can't be incredibly excited by the start of the season this team has had. It's hard to imagine things working better than they have through 3 games. But this team is going to have rough patches and challenges pop up throughout the journey that is an NBA season. Opposing teams are going to shoot amazingly when Ant and Lamelo have an off night. And it's important not to overreact and spiral when that happens.

JDub injury implications for us

First, I love JDub, as a player and a class act. As a player, when healthy, as good a 2-way wing as there is in the league. Has literally played all 5 positions well in his pro career. So i feel so sad.

But the OKC 800 pound gorilla has one gap - wings, beyond him. They have 3-4 bigs, 5 guards. But really nothing behind JDub.

They are still a great team, but they can be beaten by the Wolves now.

We have a real shot now. Wish it wasn’t at the expense of such a great guy.

#DYNASTY 2nd Best Home Opener Record Percentage in NBA History!

Sorry for the crappy picture. But they showed this graphic during tonight's broadcast. Thought it was interesting and a little surprising with all the lean early years in franchise history.

Edit: You guys gave me a good laugh!

I did say Sorry! By the time I thought of taking a picture, I knew the graphic was going away quick, so as soon as I got my TV on my phone window I took the pic and my phone didn't get a chance to focus on a fairly dark room. And the next pic I took the graphic was gone.

Anthony Edwards Should Limit Minutes in Blowouts

In last night's game, with 6:23 remaining, Finch subbed out 4/5 of the starting lineup: LaMelo, Jaden, Kuminga, and Rudy, while leaving Ant in. Ant played for less than another minute before he too was subbed out to end his night. Innocuous as another 34 seconds might seem, this is for a guy who had tweaked his knee earlier in the game and might miss the game tonight. He had been playing since the start of the fourth quarter after subbing in with the team leading by 28.

As fun as it is seeing us blow teams out, sometimes I wish Finch would see some of these games with a huge lead late as a chance to just let Ant skip the fourth quarter, like Shai often did last year. When the game is already in hand, don't put any unnecessary miles on those knees.

I worry that the reason this won't happen is because Ant cares about his stats. He doesn't want to finish a game with 19 points in 23 minutes. He'd rather come back to add another 10 points in the fourth quarter to keep up his per-game averages and miss the next game, because a missed game doesn't affect his stats in the same way, even though it could end up hurting the team if you lose to a quality opponent.

Obviously with the way we're playing, the most important thing for this team is keeping its starts healthy through the regular season, so if he needs a night off, he needs a night off. But there is a downside to missing whole games, and there is much less of a downside to rest when you're already up big. Particularly after seeing Jalen Williams' injury in the fourth quarter last night, I don't want Ant to risk an injury playing extra minutes on tired legs at the end of a blowout just to pad his stats.

What’s this team’s achilles heel?

We’re at three games. Wolves have won em all. They’ve almost won every quarter. Different great performances every night. I’m feeling amazing about this team.

But I gotta ask…

What beats this team? Dominant post-play (Wemby, Joker)? Health? Poor 3 shooting?

This is going too well for me.

Ant’s been super durable, but this recurring knee problem is concerning…

Ant will play through anything and is a super healer. But the last couple seasons (especially late last season that runner’s knee has really flared up) he’s dealt with more issues even though he’s gutted through it.

The knee he’s had trouble with this preseason and 1st couple games has been his right runner’s knee, not hyperextended knee.

The fact that he doesn’t even show off in the open court the last couple years makes it concerning too. He doesn’t have that elite burst he had in year’s 1-3. He’s just added so much to his game that he can get away with a slightly less version of that peak athleticism. That spurs series was ultra impressive that he was able to overcome both knee issues and still cook their defenders. That makes me hopeful even if he’s never 100% again.

General Discussion Melo

Now that he and Ant Man 🐜 are literally playing out of their minds together, does Melo end up becoming an All Star again? Considering he hasn't made an All Star team since 2022 when he was in Charlotte; if he stays healthy no doubt he becomes one in Minnesota. Really loving Melo with Ant as a pairing.

The Illinois Timberwolves!

Appreciation post for Ayo Dosunmu and Terrence Shannon Jr.

Back in the offseason when Ayo signed his new contract, everyone not a Wolves fan called his contract an overpay for his game 4 outburst against the Nuggets. So far this season, he's averaging 13-5-5 on 51-43-67 shooting splits. He's been the perfect player off the bench and should be on pace win 6moty. What a steal of a contract and move by Tim Connelly.

To pair with Ayo off the bench, Terrence Shannon Jr. has been improving his game a lot this season. Before the Kuminga signing, TJ was our sixth man and I'm sure every Wolves fan expected him to make the leap to becoming a 6moty candidate. So far, he's averaging 13-3-2 on 57-50-64 shooting splits. His 3 point shot and his defense so far has improved drastically.

We have a strong guard rotation off the bench with Ayo, TJ, and Bones. Just wait till we get The Big Ragu back.

Manually removed by mods in NBATalk. Zero reasons given for removing the post (I even messaged them asking if it was bc of language and got zero response). Shameless levels of cope and seethe going on around the league rn I imagine. Especially after all the baby daddy jokes (dog whistling) and “they’re not serious they’re too immature” hot takes that were going around online😂

Anyone who knows ball knows what this team is. Legendary run incoming. Congrats to wolves fans.

DID WE UNDERESTIMATE THE BENCH OR IS IT JUST EARLY

Are we good until donte returns or do you think we need something else off the bench ?

Did anyone notice Ant wasn’t on the bench after he subbed out?

I saw him wincing and grabbing his knee a couple times. Hopefully nothing serious - we got a busy week and need our guy.

Repost DAZN on Directv

Heard Dan Berrero talking about how Friday night’s game was broadcast on Directv channel 668. I’m watching tonight’s game on that channel as well. I subscribed to DAZN but wouldn’t need it if they will be on Directv. Anybody know what the hell is going on? It’s the DAZN broadcast being shown on Directv.

ANT can swing to either corner..

This is a recipe for putting the defense in constant rotation. How does any foe stop this consistently over 7 games?

You now have to open the CFA app PRIOR to 10:30AM the following morning to "claim the offer" and redeem it later in the day. CFA apparently wasn't happy with how popular the offer had become. Pretty fucked up move if you ask me.

Track the Pack Warriors passing on LaMelo and giving up on Kuminga

• Upvotes

The Warriors pass on LaMelo could’ve had their pg of the future, and could’ve extended the warriors chances of playoff success with Steph.

They also gave up on Kuminga because he wasn’t “bought in” to their principles. Maybe he needed a change in his career to come to a realization, but he has been a revelation to this team.

Thank you to the Warriors for allowing us to pair Melo and Kuminga with Ant and Jaden. 😆
