[Jon] LaMelo Ball gives Timberwolves fans everything they have been waiting for
MINNEAPOLIS — Up until midway through the third quarter of the Minnesota’s third game of the season, Timberwolves fans had been forced to watch so much of this electric LaMelo Ball experience from afar.
The Wolves played five of their six preseason games on the road, then started the regular season with two straight away games. Fans could see what he’s been doing to buoy their Timberwolves in Miami and Orlando. On Sunday, in the home opener against Toronto, they finally got to feel it.
Like any true showman does, Ball made them wait.
Nearly 19,000 fans packed into Target Center, thirsty for their first real experience of Melo ball. The Timberwolves blew out the Heat and Magic in a Florida two-step to start the season, and now one of the loudest arenas in the league finally got a chance to let its new point guard hear the love. But Ball picked up three quick fouls, limiting him to just five minutes in the first half.
His fourth foul came 30 seconds into the third period, but Wolves coach Chris Finch decided to stay with Ball in that moment. He didn’t want to foul his own player out of the game. With a 10-point lead, Finch wanted to go for the kill.

Questionable Sequence at end of Wolves-Cavs match.
After watching it back, the sound could be a shoe or a whistle from the crowd. Odd sequence when the Wolves players seemed to half-quit on the play. What do you guys think? Not trying to stir shit up, just seemed like it was worth looking at.

Stats I’ve done some math
Not a statistician or anything, but I took our 3-0 record and extrapolated it to the entire season. And what I found is that if we keep this trajectory, we are on pace to be the first team to ever go 82-0. Thoughts?

No matter what, my fiancé and I saw an amazing game tonight! Ant-Man put up 47, Wolves lost by 2 in OT on the 2nd night of a back-to-back. We are proud of this team and love them even more for their resilience! We were loud all game long! Thank you for making our Anniversary enjoyable and memorable!

Highlights My favorite Lamelo play last night - defense to offense baby!
Lamelo got the deflection and steal and instead of taking the shot himself as most players would do, he passed up to Jaden for an easy layup 🥹 Love his energy on defense, his court vision and his selflessness!
Sorry about the sound effects, I get very hyped when watching basketball 🤣

General Discussion Bricken for Chicken Update
You now have to open the CFA app PRIOR to 10:30AM the following morning to "claim the offer" and redeem it later in the day. CFA apparently wasn't happy with how popular the offer had become. Pretty fucked up move if you ask me.

Xs and Os This offense feels like it is what Finch always wanted it to be
I’m pretty lacking in basketball strategy, but most of the words that get thrown around with Finch’s offensive system is that it is free flowing and player decision led. It seems that the guys who have been playing in the system for years now (mcdaniels, Edwards, gobert etc.) have improved over time with making the quick decisions that Finch has coached them to do.
What’s cool about Lamelo, Kuminga, and Ayo is it feels like these are guys that have strengths playing the way Finch wants his teams to and are just gelling so early. This is what the offense is supposed to do, quick passes and penetrations to find open shots. I think Finch has just always had to adjust the system from KAT being such a pick and pop demon and Randle working better in isolation inside the 3 point line.
Great coaches adjust their systems based on the talent. But it feels like right now we finally have a roster that fits the system Finch is trying to incorporate.

Hopeful That was not a bad loss all around.
Look, I know it sucks to watch our guys lose, no matter how it happens. Let’s all take a deep breath. It’s a long season.
Lamelo had a decent game. There were moments when he looked a little stuck, but also many moments when he performed well and his defensive effort was consistent. He is so fun to watch.
Ant had 47 on almost 56% shooting. He’s our guy and any game we get to watch him play at this level is a joy. He’s also not always going to go 33% from 3.
Beringer looks better every game. His instincts are excellent, and he’s so hungry every play. He’s already a real rotation guy for us.
Rudy had probably the worst offensive game I’ve seen him play, but his defence was there like always and he grabbed 20 boards. Would love for him to shoot better from the line and grab passes easier, but that’s Rudy.
Kuminga had some rough moments, but he’s bought in defensively and picks his spots pretty well. I loved the moment when he caught harden sleeping for an easy backdoor cut.
There’s a lot of great ball to look forward to. We had this one a few times, but I’m not worried.
Wolves Back.
Edit: also yeah I wish we hit more free throws. Lol. Hope that doesn’t continue.

Anthony Edwards Should Limit Minutes in Blowouts
In last night's game, with 6:23 remaining, Finch subbed out 4/5 of the starting lineup: LaMelo, Jaden, Kuminga, and Rudy, while leaving Ant in. Ant played for less than another minute before he too was subbed out to end his night. Innocuous as another 34 seconds might seem, this is for a guy who had tweaked his knee earlier in the game and might miss the game tonight. He had been playing since the start of the fourth quarter after subbing in with the team leading by 28.
As fun as it is seeing us blow teams out, sometimes I wish Finch would see some of these games with a huge lead late as a chance to just let Ant skip the fourth quarter, like Shai often did last year. When the game is already in hand, don't put any unnecessary miles on those knees.
I worry that the reason this won't happen is because Ant cares about his stats. He doesn't want to finish a game with 19 points in 23 minutes. He'd rather come back to add another 10 points in the fourth quarter to keep up his per-game averages and miss the next game, because a missed game doesn't affect his stats in the same way, even though it could end up hurting the team if you lose to a quality opponent.
Obviously with the way we're playing, the most important thing for this team is keeping its starts healthy through the regular season, so if he needs a night off, he needs a night off. But there is a downside to missing whole games, and there is much less of a downside to rest when you're already up big. Particularly after seeing Jalen Williams' injury in the fourth quarter last night, I don't want Ant to risk an injury playing extra minutes on tired legs at the end of a blowout just to pad his stats.
