Too mild for school Pages in my kids' books don't rhyme in my accent
Since the vast majority of English language kids books are written for either American or English accents, there will be many instances where the rhyming completely falls apart in my Scottish accent.
This example here rhymes in both English and American accents as the vowel sounds in turn and learn have merged in both accents. English - [tɜːn] & [lɜːn], American - [tɝn] & [lɝn]. Whereas in Scottish these vowel sounds are completely distinct - [tʌrn] & [lɛrn]. Like t-uh-r-n and l-eh-r-n. So unless I put on an English or American accent, I can't get this sentence to rhyme.
