Other Situation How I got my motel voucher step by step

Hello all, this is how I got a hotel voucher. Step by step. If you have any questions comment or pm I will try to help you

LONGTIME on and off homeless/vagabond here. Just a little bit about me, Im originally from the Midwest traveled most of the central and west united states and a few other countries years ago. Im a single male. Im in my 30s and im disabled and applying for disability

I kicked drugs and alcohol (im on subs and use medical mj but that's it) and I was just coming out of jail on probation with a huge number of years over my head with nowhere to go. So I went to treatment to give me

some stability (and as part of the plea agreement) 🄺

After rehab I rented an apartment with my families help long story short the landlord was a scammer. I lost everything I owned except my wallet and ID. So here I was on probation, addicted but sober, with nothing and starting over AGAIN... SO... I got on the phone and started calling...

I started calling churches. The first one I did told me they would talk to me that day. That same day they got me a week at a hotel. They ended up getting me one more week after that.

Those two weeks gave me enough time to keep googling and calling. Im on MAT meds for fentanyl addiction (suboxone) so I googled "Housing for people on MAT meds" and it told me about a program called the fresh start program and that they will pay 10,000$ worth of rent and give 1,500 furniture stipend.

I asked my probation officer about these programs and she told me she had never heard of them. So I called more places and more places until I realized the same place that prescribes me my medicine is in charge of this program.

It got really irritating and took me being pretty much annoying to the case workers. I kept calling and texting. Saying how badly I needed help and finally I got the number to the "right" caseworker after 5 days of trying. I explained to her I had been scammed before and that I was a felon and that Noone would rent to me.

I told her the hotel I was already at would be perfect because they have monthly rates and I dont have much besides clothes, a backpack, and my phone anyway. A couple of more days passed with me not giving up and continuing to call. Finally she agreed to meet the hotel owner with me. I made sure to always leave rooms nicer than I had found them. I kept to my own business and always never had anyone over to any room I was at and these hotel owners love low maintenance paying tenants.

It worked. We all three talked. All of a sudden the state is not only helping me recover with medicaid and my suboxone keeping me from fentanyl they've paid a year at this hotel.

This is only one of several programs in my area. Google AI is really good at finding some of these programs but you gotta call call call and call. Leave messages. Be persistent. Make sure they know exactly how much you need this.

Im sure bluer stages will have more programs to help than red states but im originally from a red state and they had some similar programs where im from. But they want to see you trying. If you get in a program and a free spot take care of it and dont have people over that are going to tarnish it and get you removed.

Happy travels and best regards fam

Other Situation We're screwed

My husband and I ran out of options so my husband has been working 9-5pm 7 days a week for the motel we're staying at in exchange for rent. I can't work since my motorcycle wreck in April. We've been eating out of dumpsters and going to food pantries. We have 2 dogs. We moved here (lake Jackson) from Houston to have a place to stay. My husband is a very hard worker and has really been working hard for the owner. There's no time for him to go look for side work.

The owners have been giving him a hard time since day 1 and we've been here for about a month. He doesn't get proper breaks or lunch and nothing in the room works. Our toilet doesn't flush, there's no bathroom sink, and we only have one light and 1 working outlet.

A few hours ago the owner told us to start packing because my husband took a lunch break at 3pm. He was only inside long enough to eat a sandwich.

We are now stuck out with our 2 dogs in a town where we know nobody, our car is so packed we can't even sleep in it. My husband has plenty of work in Houston, we just need to get there.

Right now we didn't even have enough gas to leave the parking lot. Neither of us have any family to ask for help.

Seeking Advice Only 20-year-old father homeless with my son in DFW — eviction on my record. Where do I start?

I’m 20 years old and currently jumping from hotel to hotel with my son. I’m trying to get us into stable housing, but I have an eviction from last year and still owe money to my previous landlord. My credit is also in the 500s, so I’m worried about getting denied everywhere I apply.
I’m trying to figure out the fastest realistic way to get us into a place of our own. I don’t have the luxury of spending months applying to apartments that are just going to reject me, and hotel costs are making it harder to save money.
I’m located in the Dallas–Fort Worth area of Texas. I’m willing to consider private landlords, smaller apartment communities, income-based housing, shared housing if it’s safe and appropriate for my son, or any legitimate program that could help us get stable.
I’m also trying to find steady employment that pays enough to support us while working around my son’s childcare schedule.
I’m not looking for a handout or expecting someone to solve everything for me. I want to work, provide for my son, and get us back on our feet. I just need to figure out the best place to start.
For anyone who has experienced homelessness with a child or had to find housing after an eviction:
What did you do first?
Did any organizations actually help you find housing quickly?
Were you able to rent from a private landlord with an eviction on your record?
Are there programs in DFW that help parents with children who are staying in hotels?
What would you do in my position over the next 7–30 days?
I would really appreciate any practical advice, resources, or experiences you can share.

Squatting

I’m disabled, on oxygen 24/7 and my ssdi does not cover my meds, food and living. My local social service case worker purposely cut off my Medicaid 6 months ago. No meds or way to get to the doctor. It has taken all I have and my son has to keep us going to this point. He is a single father of 4 to boot!
Just found out I won my Medicaid appeal but they have 30 days to request more docs from me to ā€œrestartā€ my Medicaid and another 30 days after that to process what I send to them. My medicare starts December 1. Honestly, I feel the city of Virginia Beach is just hoping I die before my Medicare can kick in. We are now squatting in my dead step father’s hoarder house (he died a few months back). No electricity or water. I have a cat. I can’t even get to social services office to ask for a supervisor. I won’t give up.. I’m not that person.. but, damn… Long term covid shredded my lungs. I’m in my early 50’s and feel like I’m a burden to everyone and just praying I don’t die on them. Please send prayers. Send encouragement… I feel like reality is gone and I have completely gone cuckoo for coco puffs!

Things got bad with my family after I ended up having a mental breakdown. I dont know what to do. I dont know where to start. I also need a place to live. Please help me i need as much resources as I can get and some sort of guidance of what to do. I have 2 months here, as I am living with my uncle. I would prefer to live in this state if I can. I originally live in southern California. All I have on me right now is my California ID and my social security card. I dont have my new debit card yet.

It might be important to note that I suffer from severe mental illnesses and originally a foster youth.

I only have 3 months to find a solution, advice?

Hi everyone. I’m 18F, currently living in Switzerland, and I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore.
I lost my mother to cancer, and my father, who struggles with alcoholism and has been abusive, kicked me out shortly after I turned 18. I lost the only home I knew, and ever since, I’ve been trying to figure out how to survive on my own.
I’m currently staying with my boyfriend’s family, but it’s not a permanent solution, and I’m terrified of ending up homeless. (My boyfriend is leaving in 3 months for military and his parents want me to move out till then. That will be January)
I’ve been desperately looking for a job, but nothing worked. Also i have no car or license so yeah..
I just want a chance to get back on my feet, find a stable job, and have somewhere safe to call home.

Does anyone have advice on what I can do? Are there organizations, emergency housing programs, or other resources that could help someone in my situation in Switzerland?
Any advice, personal experiences, or guidance would genuinely mean a lot. Thank you for reading. ā¤ļø

Eviction Was I in the wrong?

I was kicked out of my family's home (mostly fled due to threats against my life) after I called CPS due to a dispute over my sister's abusive and neglectful treatment of her son.

Before this I always had to keep quiet of her behavior and the hoarder conditions of the house. I grew up pretty much in an abusive environment and was discredited and made to have a horrible reputation towards everybody who didn't live in the house.

I'm originally from Louisville, Kentucky and drove to Warner Robins, Georgia to stay with a friend. I couldn't find a job there so I moved out west to where I'm staying now. I have stable income but it's not enough to live on my own with, I'm staying with an old friend who's been charging me below the market value for rent and utilities combined.

I admit that I got extremely lucky, but I can't help but to sit here and wonder what would've happened had I kept silent and kept dealing with the abusive environment. Would I have a job fixing computers like I wanted, would I have the resources to have moved out into a stable environment on my own rather than going through all of the stress and uncertainty over the last few months?

I originally planned to save and move to Washington state so that I could attend school and break out of the entry level job market, but that obviously fell through.

I've been kicked out once before for the same issue, now there's no going back. I still want to go to Washington and build a better life but I'm scared that I won't make it on my own even if I go through a company transfer.

Did I fuck myself over trying to defend my nephew? Was I really in the wrong?

Advice on surviging transitional housing starving us

Let me preface this by saying this place isn't just for addicts(not that I judge) they take anyone struggling with housing. Im here for shelter not court or rehab.

My main goal is getting food i can afford and cook in the sink on my grocery trips. I need food and am running out of funds fast at 15 dollars and I'm starving I'm getting scared.

I have hit rock bottom in my life and am living in this combo shelter/halfway house. The owner is only in it for the money. This place is screwing with my mental state I know im being abused here.

For two weeks we've gotten 1 meal a day and arent allowed to leave except for job Interviews, church, and 1 trip to a grocery store as a group. And I cant get SNAP. When i tried to apply the state said my address is blacklisted due to him receiving funding to feed us but all the food is donated.

The owner is deep in the community and someone tried to report him and it got back to him before the end of the day even though he told noone but the agency.

He forces us to work at his "church" which is really just a way for him to make money by convincing his congregation that your prayers wont be answered without a donation with it.

Ive lost 28 pounds in 3 weeks of living here. The one meal i get doesnt break 500 calories. I can keep non perishable but I have no money to my name. Im honestly afraid and I have no family to turn to.

Ive gone in interview after jminterview and no luck.

I need advice. What should I do? If I report him he knows those people. As well. Im starving, scared and hopeless.

Dinner last night he cut donated pizzas and cut them 40 ways. I got all crust pieces.

I could go by non perishable but alls I have to cook is hot water.

I made a fresh account because people know have my other.

Edit: I am looking for what food I can buy when allowed to go to the store that I can cook with just sink water. I have like 20 bucks left
