My daughter and I tried our hand at a copper rose. We've never done it before so be gentle! 🤣 (but honest)

We enjoy trying something new and then highlighting what we'd improve on next time

since everyone needs hobby recommendation...

• Upvotes

Hi guys!

I've been part of this subreddit for a while and gotten so many great ideas for my own hobbies. Had no idea how wide the hobby-world is. For example, I saw someone recommend paper mache one day and immediately got to work. it's so much fun!

What I also noticed here is that almost every post is about people not knowing what to do during their free time. It's almost like analysis-paralysis (which I totally get) with so many potential hobbies to pick up. So... I decided to make something that would solve the issue and created a fun hobby-wheel. You can use this whenever you're stuck on deciding what to do. Just spin the wheel and get a suggestion for a hobby.

I hope it helps. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions :)

I'm so bored that I'm willing to try anything. So if u guys have any suggestions on what to do, I’ll gladly take them and actually give it a try

What do you actually do instead of scrolling when you have a lot of free time?

I’m in a weird phase of life right now where I genuinely don’t know what to do with most of my day.
I run a business and thankfully it’s doing well. Over time I’ve built a team and systems around it, and now it has reached a point where it doesn’t need much of my involvement day to day.
Sounds like a great problem to have, and I know it is, but I didn’t expect the amount of emptiness that comes with suddenly having so much unstructured time.
I do have friends, but everyone is getting busy with their own lives, and some of my close friends live in different cities. So a lot of the time I’m by myself.
Right now the gym is probably the only consistent thing I do. I work whenever something needs my attention, but that still leaves a lot of empty hours.
I don’t want those hours to become Instagram → YouTube → Netflix → sleep → repeat. I’ve noticed how easy it is to just pick up my phone because there’s nothing else planned.
And I’m not necessarily looking for another way to make money. I want things that give me some sense of progress, purpose, community, or even just make life more interesting.
For anyone who has gone through a phase like this, what did you actually start doing?
Sports? Volunteering? Learning something seriously? Joining communities? Solo travel? Building something just for fun? Starting another business? Some completely random hobby?
I’m especially interested in things that naturally get you out of the house and around new people.
Would genuinely love to hear what worked for you.

I know I know, same question. I am having surgery on Wednesday and will be bed ridden for at least 3 days, with limited mobility for a week. I’m 32 male.

Suggestions for work hours

I have a home office job that requires intermittent attention, so I get to have a lot of free time on and off. I tend to get interrupted, so I need suggestions that can be paused and resumed whenever.

I currently fingerboard, play random videogames and 3d print, but would like to extend my options.

I’m considering reading but I’ve tried and for some reason it weighs me down a lot. Also considered crocheting, but I hacen’t bought the things I need.

Any ideas are welcome, thank you :)

Passion and hobbies

I'm practically a blank slate; all I do is play video games and do things most people do.

People who have unique hobbies and are passionate about them, how did you find hobbies? Every time I tried, I found myself unable to find anything.

I'm 31M looking for a hobby to do in my spare time, I want something I can invest into like collecting or building something, I tried comics and model making for a while but they didnt stick!

Quite happy to invest in tools, equipment, accessories that kind of thing.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Also from the UK incase that effects anything at all.

For a little less than a year now I’ve been collecting plushies, figures and other things that either remind me of my childhood or interest me. It’s honestly worth every penny and I definitely recommend everyone to start to collect something they like !

Does anyone find that their hobbies are very seasonal?

I really find that in Ireland my hobbies are seasonal. I will do outdoor activities and sports in the summer, April to October. Then a sharp pivot to jigsaws, board games, video games and movies. Even some art and crafts. Gardening too is my other seasonal one. I embrace as I find I look forward to the change then to get through winter. But I wonder do I miss out for example by not doing board games with friends all summer.

Finding your talent as adult

Im in a long term relationships (33 F) and gf is 27. She has so many talents and hobbies and I’ve always struggled finding something I’m good at other than my job (child psychopathology) I want to find a hobby that can bring my confidence up and work on comparing myself less to others who have multiple hobbies or talents (also working on this in therapy lol)

What are some interesting skills or things two ppl can learn together?

Hey everyone so, my friend and I are looking for interesting skills, hobbies, or activities that we can explore together online. It could be literally anything we're both open to trying things we've never done before, so don't limit your suggestions to conventional skills

Ideally, we're looking for something that:

  • We can learn together
  • Is fun and engaging for both beginners.
  • Gives us something to practise, experiment with, or work towards.
  • Doesn't necessarily require spending money.

If you've ever learned something with a friend or have any suggestions for unusual or underrated hobbies, I'd love to hear them

How to balance between productive and having a hobby? and how to not turn this hobby to a productivity plan

I hope there are drawing artists here that could also help as I’m not sure where to ask this

So I used to like drawing
particularly with the pencil as I could get really into detail with it
Then I tried oil pastels and watercolor
Wasn’t the best at it
I sort of gave up and stopped art completely as I got busy with life and depressed
Now I want to go back to it since I’m somewhat free and I have many ideas written down that I really want to do and I want to learn watercolor a lot
But I can’t seem to think about it with having an ā€œaction planā€ or steps which ruin the fun of it

I also wanted to get into crochet multiple times but I also tend to be a ā€œif I can’t do it once and fail I give upā€ and I also make up in my head a ā€œaction planā€

I don’t know how to enjoy these hobbies and have them as fun without being too ā€œpracticalā€ with

I always delay these hobbies even when I have all the supplies needed because I’m waiting for the ā€œperfect timeā€ idk what that is and I delay starting them because of fear of failure
I feel like I can’t enjoy this hobby because of 1. perfecting time 2. fear of failure 3. I can’t stop counting the time these hobbies take from my day which makes me not enjoy it and just want to be productive

I really don’t know what other sub to ask this in
If you recommend another sub let me know and if you have advice for me I’d be grateful
